The
Sloughs Wildlife Management Area (SWMA) encompasses
approximately 10,441 acres in Henderson and Union
Counties. Portions of the SWMA are owned and managed
by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources,
while others are owned by the US Army Corps of
Engineers. Just under 2,000 acres are set up as
waterfowl refuges managed primarily for migratory ducks
and geese. Several
viewing towers line Hwy 268 leading to the SWMA office in
Henderson County. These towers offering excellent
views of the various natural sloughs and flooded
agricultural fields. Other habitats include warm
season grass fields, bottomland hardwood forests and
various seasonal and permanent ponds.
