About Us
The Kentucky Audubon Council is an
organization with the mission of acting as a link, a
coordinator, facilitator and a voice for the separate Audubon
Society chapters in the state. The council is funded by
payment of dues by each member of the separate chapters in
Kentucky along with a Trust Fund set up by a donor. The
council has 4 officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary and
Treasurer. Each chapter appoints delegates to serve on the
council with the number of delegates determined by the size of
the chapter. The council accepts inquiries from the public
and directs the questions to the appropriate chapter leaders for
response. In the past year questions have been received
about ecotourism, wildlife concerns, Audubon program needs,
environmental problems, and such. The Council has
nominated experts to serve on a board to identify Important Bird
Areas in the state as part of an international classification of
habitats that are vital to bird populations. The Council's
short range plans are to raise funds to finance a state office
with an executive director. Long range plans are to set up
nature centers across the state in accordance with the National
Audubon Society's 2020 Vision, its national plan for 1000 nature
centers across the country by the year 2020.
